Report indicates next iPhone 5 to feature a 3.5-inch screen

iphone5Since last year, there have been talks floating on the Internet about Apple’s plans to do away with the size of the display that they have stuck to, since the first generation iPhone. Last year, prior to the launch of the iPhone 4S, rumours had suggested that Apple would launch their flagship handset with a screen measuring at 3.7 inches diagonally, however, when the iPhone 4S launched, it featured a design that was a replica of its predecessor, the iPhone 4. After the current handset hit the market, reports had surfaced that Apple was planning on releasing a smartphone with a display size of 4 inches or larger and more reports, more recently have been suggesting that the Cupertino brand was set to launch the next iPhone with a 4.6-inch display, much like their Android counterparts that release handsets measuring over 4 inches diagonally. However, as per a report by iMore, it appears that Apple will in fact stick to the same size they have used all this while on their iPhones.

As per the report, the author states, “Despite the latest rounds of super-gigantic iPhone screen size rumors, iMore is hearing that, as of last month, plans for the new iPhone (iPhone 5,1) called for the same 3.5-inch screen as previous generations. While we’re told that isn’t set in stone, and it’s possible Apple could go slightly bigger, there’s doesn’t seem to be any chance for anything even approaching the size of a Galaxy Nexus.

The website claims that the source of this information is reliable and the logic behind a similar sized screen is nothing, but having to once again adopt Retina Display. The report states, “Apple has also paid attention to one-handed ease of use, keeping every inch of the iPhone screen easily accessible — if held in one hand, most people’s thumb can still reach the opposite corner without much difficulty. Surveys have suggested users would appreciate a larger screen on the iPhone, and perhaps Apple would consider something up to 4-inches. At 960×640, a 4-inch screen would be 288 ppi. A 3.75-inch screen would be 307 ppi. Both are lower than the iPhone 4S but still higher than the new iPad, but they’d let Apple maintain the current resolution and much of the one-handed ease of use.
