Where to buy an Amazon Fire TV Stick in time for the holidays

Sarah Tew/CNET

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is sure to be a hot commodity this holiday season. The little device plugs directly into an HDTV and gives users a quick and inexpensive option to view content from Amazon, Netflix, Hulu Plus, Spotify and Pandora, among many other content providers.

Amazon originally offered the Fire TV Stick to Prime customers for $19 (down from $39) for a limited time. The company’s inventory was quickly depleted and shipping times have been pushed back until after the new year. While the device is full price now, there are other options for those of you looking to pick one up in time for the holidays.

Best Buy

Best Buy currently has the Fire TV Stick available for purchase onlinewith free shipping and in stores. Online orders won’t arrive for another two weeks (unless you choose one of the expensive one or two day shipping options). You are better off heading to your local Best Buy store or ordering online and choosing to pick it up in store. Every store around CNET’s New York office listed the device as in stock and available for online pickup.

Staples

Staples is another retailer that is offering the Fire TV Stick online and in stores. Similar to Best Buy, though, online orders are not expected to be delivered for another three to four weeks. An in-store pickup option is also available and most stores near CNET’s New York office had at least six devices in stock.

eBay

While you will definitely pay more for the device, there are a ton of listings for the Fire TV Stick on eBay. I would recommend this option only if you desperately need it before the holidays. Remember, you could always give someone an “I owe you.”
