In addition to the LG G Vista, Verizon released another 4G LTE handset known as the Kyocera Brigadier. Equipped with a quad-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera, the device currently is Kyocera’s highest-tiered waterproof phone. It retails for $99.99 with a carrier contract and $399.99 without.
Designed to withstand the elements, the Brigadier is dustproof, shockproof, and rated to satisfy IP68 certification, meaning it can be submerged in up to six feet of water for 30 minutes. It also sports a 4.5-inch HD Sapphire crystal display. Previously reported first by CNET earlier this month, Sapphire glass is ultra-durable, and is able to resist scratches, scuffs, and drops better than an average smartphone display.
The Android 4.4 KitKat device is powered by a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU, and a non-removable 3,100mAh battery, which has a reported usage time of up to 26 hours. The 8-megapixel camera can record up to 1080p video, and for selfies and web chatting, there’s a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter as well.
Other features include 16GB of internal memory with the option to expand up to 32GB, 2GB of RAM, and wireless charging capabilities. The Brigadier marks the carrier’s second Kyocera smartphone, after the Hydro Elite, and is one of several waterproof Kyocera handsets for the US market.
