The Internet Computer (ICP) will be launching on Coinbase Pro and supported by Coinbase Custody

Once Internet Computer (ICP) governance tokens (developed by the DFINITY Foundation) become generally available on the Internet Computer network, transfer ICP into your Coinbase Pro account ahead of trading. We will publish tweets from our Coinbase Pro Twitter account as a date becomes available. Support for ICP will be available in all Coinbase’s supported jurisdictions with the exception of New York State. Trading will begin once liquidity conditions are met. Coinbase Custody now supports Internet Computer (ICP).

One of the most common requests we receive from customers is to be able to trade more assets on our platform. Per the terms of our listing process, we anticipate supporting more assets that meet our standards over time. Most recently we have added trading support for Tether (USDT), Ampleforth Governance Token (FORTH), 1inch (1INCH), Enjin Coin (ENJ), NKN (NKN), Origin Token (OGN), Ankr (ANKR), Curve DAO Token (CRV), Storj (STORJ), Cardano (ADA), SushiSwap (SUSHI), Polygon (MATIC) SKALE (SKL), The Graph (GRT), Aave, (AAVE), Bancor (BNT), Synthetix (SNX), Filecoin (FIL), and Uniswap (UNI), along with supporting additional order books. Coinbase continues to explore support for new digital assets.

Once Internet Computer governance tokens (ICP) become generally available, transfer ICP into your Coinbase Pro account ahead of trading. We will publish tweets from our Coinbase Pro Twitter account as a date becomes available. Trading will begin once liquidity conditions are met.

After sufficient supply of ICP is established on the platform, trading on order books will launch in three phases, post-only, limit-only and full trading. If at any point one of the new order books does not meet our assessment for a healthy and orderly market, we may keep the book in one state for a longer period of time or suspend trading as per our Trading Rules.

We will publish tweets from our Coinbase Pro Twitter account as each order book moves through the phases.

Internet Computer utility tokens (ICP) can be staked in its governance system to earn “voting rewards”, or “converted into cycles” that can be used to power smart contract computation. On the Internet Computer blockchain, “developers can create websites, enterprise IT systems, pan-industry protocols, hyperscale open internet services, DeFi, and NFTs by deploying their code directly on the public Internet”.

“The Internet Computer represents the third major innovation in blockchain after Bitcoin and Ethereum. The first blockchain to support smart contract software that runs at web speed, serves user experiences directly to users, and scales its compute capacity without bound — increasing the potential applications that can run on a public blockchain, as well as improving the reach of today’s blockchain ecosystem”, said Dominic Williams, Founder and Chief Scientist at DFINITY Foundation. “The Internet Computer is a scientific achievement representing unprecedented R&D effort over the past few years, orchestrated by the DFINITY Foundation from research centers in Zurich, Palo Alto, San Francisco, Tokyo and remote teams in places such as Germany and the UK. The not-for-profit Foundation has a singular purpose — to relentlessly expand the capabilities of a public blockchain and its decentralized ecosystem using advanced computer science and cryptography, and make blockchain the platform of choice upon which we can reimagine all our systems and services.”

To learn more about the cryptography and technology behind the Internet Computer blockchain, join the Internet Computer launch event on Friday May 7 2021 @ 10am PT / 7pm CET.

ICP is not yet available on Coinbase.com or via our Consumer mobile apps. We will make a separate announcement if and when this support is added.

You can sign up for a Coinbase Pro account here to start trading. For more information on trading ICP on Coinbase Pro, visit our support page.
