Selling an old smartphone can be a frustrating process. Listing it on Craiglist often leads to a series of emails, wherein the buyer wants to lower the selling price, while selling on eBay leaves the final sales price up to chance.

We’ve covered various sites and services that offer you a flat price for a device, but how do you truly know if you’re getting a fair deal?

One way is to check the going rate for your device on Swappa. The website allows owners to put a device up for sale, and provides information on what the current pricing trend is for each device.

In an effort to make the pricing process easier, Swappa has released a standalone pricing app appropriately called Swappa Price.

The free app is currently available on Android, but an iOS version is in development. A Swappa representative couldn’t provide timing on when we should expect the iOS version.

Using Swappa Price is simple: launch the app, search for the device you want to price, and view the historical pricing graph along with the price range of active listings on the site.

Armed with pricing information, you can then make an informed decision when trading in or selling a smartphone. The app, naturally, will take you directly to the Swappa site should you decide to list your device.

On the other side of the coin, Swappa Price can help you determine if a device you’re interested in buying is within a fair price range.
