iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered jailbreak days away
Apple’s A5 processor-based devices, the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, have proved to be tough nuts to crack for the jailbreak community. Now, though, a breakthrough has been made and a full untethered iPhone 4S jailbreak is believed to be mere days away. Read on for more info.
While jailbreakers have been having their wicked way with iOS 5 on the iPhone 4 and original iPad, the latest Apple hardware has been a bit of a no-no.
Apple’s dual-core A5 chip, which is at the heart of the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, is one tightly sewn-up beast. As such, getting it to open up and play nicely with the likes of Cydia (the main app store for hacked iDevices) has been a bit of a task.

Esteemed Apple hacker pod2g hasn’t been deterred, however. In fact, in recent times he’s enlisted the help of some of his buddies to break through the iPhone 4S’s stubborn resistance. This ‘many hands make light work’ approach appears to have yielded results.
Over on pod2g’s blog, the hacker has revealed that his team has managed to escape the iPhone 4S’s sandbox restrictions. For those who don’t have a clue what that could mean (count me in), it essentially means that the team now has unfettered access to the whole system. They’ve broken through the last major barrier, and a full iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak is simply a matter of time.
How much time? According to pod2g (via PocketNow) “it should be a matter of days”, though there’s “Still no precise ETA of course”. Of course.
