Prior to iOS 9, the only way to access files stored in your iCloud Drive account was by using a specific app for a specific file type. iOS lacked a dedicated app to view your files as a whole, and it was a frustration point for many.

iOS 9, however, offers an optional iCloud Drive app. The app services as a file browser for any and all files stored in your account.

After you update to iOS 9, you can enable the iCloud Drive app with a few simple taps.

  • Launch the Settings app on your iOS device.
  • Scroll down until you find the iCloud listing and select it.
  • Tap on iCloud Drive.
  • Set the Show on home screen switch to the On position.
  • Press the home button on your device.

A shiny white icon with the iCloud Drive logo will now be present on your home screen. Upon launching it, you can expect to find your stored files available for your viewing and editing pleasure.

Conversely, should you forget to enable the iCloud Drive app after updating, iOS will display a prompt after some time asking if you’d like to enable it. If you chose to, but no longer want the icon on your home screen, you can follow the steps outlined above to disable the app.
