Chrome: Create global keyboard shortcuts for music-streaming services
When you’re listening to music through a streaming service, you are likely not staring at the tab where it’s playing. Instead, you’re being productive (maybe) in another tab, or even playing a full-screen game.
Instead of taking a break from your productivity or game time when you want to skip tracks or pause the music, a recent post on PCWorld recommends using the StreamKeys extension for Chrome. This extension lets you set global keyboard shortcuts to control your music, without even looking at the tab it’s playing in. Here’s how:
- Install a copy of the StreamKeys extension.
- Head to the Extensions management area of Chrome at Menu > More tools > Extensions, or chrome://extensions.
- At the very bottom of the page, click the link for Keyboard shortcuts.
- Under the StreamKeys area, click the boxes next to the music player functions and set up the keyboard shortcuts you desire for each action, and press OK when finished.
Note: You cannot use a single key as a bind, and will need to add a modifier like Ctrl, Alt and/or Shift.
Now you’ll be able to adjust your music settings without needing to be in the same tab.
